WHERE TO STAY AT ULUGURU MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK?
Morogoro has a range of accommodation options and makes a convenient base for exploring the Uluguru Mountains. You can stay in town, closer to the mountains or choose a quieter stay surrounded by nature.
We work with different accommodation options depending on your budget, preferred comfort level and the rest of your itinerary. For travellers who want to slow down and spend more time in the area, places such as Mbuyuni Farm Retreat can also become part of the experience rather than simply an overnight stop.
Below are some of the accommodations we regularly recommend in and around Morogoro.
ACCOMMODATIONS NEAR THE NATIONAL PARK

FOREST SUNSET HOTEL
Located on the slopes of the Uluguru Mountains, Forest Sunset Hotel is a comfortable base for exploring Morogoro and the surrounding mountains. The rooms and chalets have private terraces overlooking the gardens, with views towards the mountains and town, and the property also has a swimming pool.
We often use Forest Sunset before or after an Uluguru hike or as an overnight stop on a longer Southern Tanzania holiday. The hotel has been renovated and offers a quiet setting while remaining conveniently located in Morogoro.

NASHERA HOTEL
Nashera Hotel is a larger hotel in Morogoro with modern rooms and views towards the Uluguru Mountains. It offers more of a conventional hotel experience and works well for travellers who value comfort and facilities while staying in town.
Its location makes it practical before or after an Uluguru hike or as part of an overland journey through Southern Tanzania.

ULUGURU RIDGE TENTED CAMP
Oldonyo Mountain View Rest House offers a much more personal experience than a conventional hotel. The small family-run guesthouse was created by a Franco-Tanzanian family and focuses on hospitality, cultural exchange and experiencing everyday life in Morogoro.
It is particularly interesting for travellers who prefer small-scale accommodation and personal contact with their hosts rather than a larger hotel environment.

EDELWYSS INN
Edelwyss Inn sits higher on the foothills of the Uluguru Mountains and is particularly interesting for its setting and views over Morogoro. Rooms have private balconies or verandas, air conditioning and ensuite bathrooms, and the property also has a swimming pool.
It is a good option for travellers who want a quieter mountain setting while still being close to Morogoro.

SIMBAMWENNI LODGE & CAMPING
Simbamwenni is a peaceful lodge and campsite set in tropical gardens along the Ngerengere River, around ten minutes from central Morogoro. Despite being close to town, the green surroundings give it a much more relaxed, nature-focused atmosphere.
Accommodation ranges from chalets and ensuite safari tents to a self-catering bungalow and camping. There is also a swimming pool. The different room types make Simbamwenni particularly flexible for families and travellers looking for something less hotel-like.

MBUYUNI FARM RETREAT
Mbuyuni Farm Retreat is much more than an overnight stop and can easily be included as a destination in its own right. The retreat is located on a large organic farm outside Morogoro, surrounded by gardens, farmland and natural bush, with the Uluguru Mountains on the horizon.
There are only four bungalows, creating a peaceful and private atmosphere. Guests can walk around the farm, follow marked nature trails and go birdwatching, with more than 230 bird species recorded in the area. There is also a swimming pool, and self-catering, half-board and full-board stays are possible.
Mbuyuni is a particularly good choice for travellers who want to slow down for a day or two between hiking and safari rather than simply spending another night in town.

MOROGORO HOTEL
Morogoro Hotel is an established hotel in the Forest Area of Morogoro, at the foot of the Uluguru Mountains. It offers a traditional hotel setting with gardens, a swimming pool, restaurant and views towards the mountains.
Its location makes it convenient for travellers who want to stay in Morogoro town while remaining close to the Uluguru Mountains.

OLDONYO MOUNTAIN VIEW REST HOUSE
Oldonyo Mountain View Rest House offers a much more personal experience than a conventional hotel. The small family-run guesthouse was created by a Franco-Tanzanian family and focuses on hospitality, cultural exchange and experiencing everyday life in Morogoro.
