The luxury prices are based on Selous Impala Camp inside the national park.

BOAT AND BUSH IN NYERERE
This private three-day safari combines two different ways of exploring Nyerere National Park: a sunset boat safari on the Rufiji River and a full day of wildlife viewing by safari vehicle.

The drive from Dar es Salaam normally takes approximately four to five hours, depending on traffic, road conditions and your pickup location.
You can stay at a lodge outside the national park or at a tented camp inside the park. Your choice affects the price and the possibilities on the first and final day of the safari.
​
The programme can also begin in Zanzibar. We can add a ferry or domestic flight to Dar es Salaam before the road safari, or prepare a separate fly-in and fly-out itinerary from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.
DAY 1
DAY 1: DRIVE TO NYERERE AND SUNSET BOAT SAFARI
Your private driver-guide will collect you from your accommodation in Dar es Salaam
in the morning. You will then drive towards Nyerere National Park, with lunch
arranged during the journey.

After arriving and checking in, you will have some time to settle into your
accommodation. At around 16:00, you will depart for a private sunset boat
safari of approximately two hours on the Rufiji River.
​
From the boat, you can look for hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds and animals
visiting the riverbanks. Afterwards, you will return to your accommodation for dinner.
​
When staying inside the national park, a short game drive may be possible on arrival. The exact programme depends on your arrival time, camp location and boat safari arrangements.

Meals included: lunch and dinner.
DAY 2
DAY 2: FULL-DAY GAME DRIVE IN NYERERE NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, you will leave with your private driver-guide for a full-day game
drive in Nyerere National Park.
​
The park contains a varied landscape of open plains, woodland, lakes and
channels connected to the Rufiji River. During the game drive, you can search
for animals such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, hippos, crocodiles and
African wild dogs. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.
​
Lunch will be arranged during the game drive. In the late afternoon, you will return
to your accommodation for dinner and your second overnight stay.
​
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
DAY 3
DAY 3: RETURN TO DAR ES SALAAM
​
After breakfast, you will begin the return journey to Dar es Salaam. Lunch will be
arranged during the drive, and you will be dropped off at your hotel, the airport
or another agreed location.
​
When staying outside the national park, an additional morning game drive can
be added at extra cost. This requires another park entry permit and will result
in a later arrival in Dar es Salaam.
​
When staying inside the national park, a final morning game drive can normally
be included before leaving. The required park access is already included in the inside-the-park package, subject to the confirmed permit times.

Meals included: breakfast and lunch.

Mloka Safari Lodge is a nice midrange lodge just outside of Nyerere National Park. It is located nearby Mloka village which gives you a nice impression of village life in Tanzania. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated. There is a bar and restaurant area where you can enjoy cosy nights together in the bush.​

PREMIUM ACCOMMODATION
Africa Safari Nyerere is a premium boutique lodge situated along the border of Nyerere National Park. It provides a more luxurious alternative to the other accommodation options outside the park. The air-conditioned bungalows include private outdoor space, while selected room types feature a private plunge pool and rooftop terrace. The lodge also has a main swimming pool, restaurant and bar.​

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
​
Is this a private safari?
Yes. The safari vehicle and English-speaking driver-guide are private for your booking group. You will not be placed in a vehicle with other travellers.
​
Can I start the safari in Zanzibar?
Yes, but the standard prices are based on departure from Dar es Salaam. You can travel from Zanzibar by ferry or domestic flight before the safari and then continue with the jeep to Nyerere.
A direct fly-in safari from Zanzibar to Nyerere is also possible. This follows a different itinerary and has a higher price.

What is the difference between staying inside and outside the park?
Lodges outside the park are more affordable and provide convenient access to the main park entrance. Camps inside the park offer a more immersive wilderness experience and greater flexibility for game viewing and optimal use of the 24hour park passes.
​
Is a game drive included on the final morning?
When staying inside the national park, a final morning game drive can normally be included under the park access already included in the package. When staying outside the park, a final game drive requires an additional park entry permit and is therefore charged separately.​
​
How do the national park passes work?
National park permits are time-limited. Guests staying outside the park require a valid permit each time they enter. For accommodation inside the park, fees are calculated in periods of 24 hours.
Because this three-day itinerary includes two nights, staying inside the park normally requires more than one permit. We calculate and include the correct park fees in your personalised quotation.

Why is there little game driving on the first day with an inside-park camp?
The sunset boat safari begins at approximately 16:00. After the drive from Dar es Salaam, there is usually only limited time for game viewing before the boat safari. A short game drive may still be possible depending on arrival time and camp location.
​
Can children join this safari?
Yes. Nyerere is suitable for families. Child discounts may apply depending on the children’s ages and the selected accommodation. Send us the ages of all children and your preferred room configuration so we can calculate the correct price.

Can I fly from Dar es Salaam instead of travelling by road?
Yes. Scheduled flights operate between Dar es Salaam and airstrips near Nyerere National Park. A fly-in itinerary reduces travel time but has a different programme and price.
​
Can the itinerary be changed?
Yes. We can adjust the accommodation, pickup location, travel arrangements and timing where possible.
We can add another safari day or include Nyerere in a longer journey through Southern Tanzania.
How long is the drive from Dar es Salaam?
The journey normally takes approximately four to five hours. Travel time can be longer depending on traffic, road conditions and your pickup location.

Can I take a flight or ferry immediately after returning?​
This depends on your departure time, chosen mode of transport and onward travel schedule. Tell us about any planned ferry or flight before booking. We will check the timing and advise whether it is possible for you. If you wish to travel to Zanzibar after the safari, you can not add an extra gamedrive on the last day and make it back on time for the late afternoon ferry to Zanzibar or flights leaving in the evening.
