Start your day with an early morning game drive in Nyerere National Park, exploring its vast wilderness and abundant wildlife. This is your last day in Nyerere, so make the most of it! Starting early gives you the best chance to spot some of Nyerere's rare animals like the wild dogs which are high on every safari-lover's wishlist!

Around 11-12, you will exit the park at Kisaki village and embark on a scenic journey through the Uluguru Mountains. The drive to Morogoro will take you about 4 hours and offers stunning views of lush landscapes, rolling hills, and vibrant local communities.

Arrive at Morogoro in the afternoon, where you’ll settle into your accommodation and enjoy a relaxing evening overlooking Uluguru Mountains.

DAY 6: DAY HIKE IN THE ULUGURU MOUNTAINS

After breakfast at your hotel in Morogoro, you’ll depart for the lush Uluguru Mountains for a scenic day hike through one of Tanzania’s beautiful mountain landscapes.

Accompanied by a local guide, the hike begins with a gradual walk to Morningside, covering approximately 8 km in about 2.5 hours. Along the way, you’ll pass through tropical forest, enjoy panoramic views, and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains.

Upon arrival at Morningside, you’ll take a short break before continuing the hike towards the stunning Choma Waterfalls. This section of the trail is around 2 km and takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes on foot. At the waterfalls, you’ll have time to relax, swim in the refreshing natural pool, take photos, and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.

After visiting the waterfalls, you’ll start the walk back down via local villages and scenic mountain paths. A stop for lunch is included along the way before returning to Morogoro. In the afternoon, continue your journey towards Mikumi National Park, where you’ll stay near the park entrance to be ready for an early safari start the following morning.

During your time in Mikumi, you'll explore different parts of the park. The stunning backdrop of the Uluguru Mountains adds extra beauty to your safari. With some luck, you might spot animals like leopards or catch sight of lions on the hunt.

DAY 9: RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast at your lodge near Ruaha National Park, you’ll set off for a full day game drive in Tanzania’s largest national park and one of its most untouched safari areas. Ruaha is known for its remote wilderness feel, dramatic landscapes shaped by the Great Ruaha River, and very low visitor numbers, making it ideal for an authentic and exclusive safari experience.

The park is a transition zone between East and Southern Africa, which means it hosts an impressive mix of wildlife. You’ll explore open savannah, rocky hills, baobab-studded plains, and riverine areas in search of elephants (Ruaha is home to one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa), giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and numerous antelope species.

With a bit of luck, you may also encounter predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even wild dogs. Because of its vast size and varied terrain, every game drive in Ruaha feels different, with constantly changing scenery and wildlife sightings.

A picnic lunch will be enjoyed inside the park at a scenic spot, allowing you to stay fully immersed in the bush throughout the day. In the late afternoon, you’ll return to your lodge to unwind, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the wilderness, ending a classic Ruaha safari day in one of Tanzania’s most rewarding and least crowded national parks.

DAY 10: RUAHA NATIONAL PARK & FLY TO ZANZIBAR

After an early breakfast at your lodge near Ruaha National Park, you’ll set out for a final half-day game drive in this vast and remote wilderness. This is your last opportunity to explore Ruaha’s dramatic landscapes, from baobab-studded hills and open plains to river valleys that attract a wide range of wildlife.

Depending on sightings, you may still come across large elephant herds, buffalo, giraffes, and a variety of antelope species, while predators such as lions or leopards are sometimes spotted in the early hours when they are still active. Ruaha’s low visitor numbers mean the experience remains quiet and uninterrupted, giving you a strong sense of being deep in the African bush.

Mid to late morning, you’ll gradually make your way back towards the airstrip, where you’ll board your scheduled flight at 13:15. The flight offers beautiful aerial views as you leave the rugged southern landscapes behind and head towards the Indian Ocean coast.

You’ll arrive in Zanzibar at approximately 16:15, where you’ll be met and transferred to your beach hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax. Whether that means enjoying the beach, taking a swim, or simply unwinding after your safari adventure as you transition into the final beach phase of your journey.

Spend your days at leisure, soaking up the sun, swimming, or enjoying the warm tropical breeze.

For those seeking more adventure, optional activities include snorkeling or diving in vibrant coral reefs, a spice tour to explore the famous spice plantations, or a visit to nearby coral reefs like Mnemba Atoll for a day of marine exploration.

Evenings are perfect for savoring fresh seafood at beachside restaurants and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the island.

DAY 14: FLIGHT BACK HOME

After breakfast at your beach resort in Zanzibar, you’ll enjoy a relaxed morning depending on your flight time. At the appropriate time, you’ll be transferred to Zanzibar Airport for your international flight back home.

This marks the end of your journey through southern Tanzania and Zanzibar, filled with unforgettable safari moments, cultural encounters, and time to unwind by the Indian Ocean.
